Cut loose by Tampa
Borregales was waived by the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Borregales struggled this preseason, going 1-for-3 on field goals, and he will now look for a new team. The kicker has yet to make his NFL debut and spent the entirety of the 2021 season on the Buccaneers' practice squad, where he could be again in 2022 if he clears waivers.

Misses costly FG attempt
Borregales missed a 52-yard field-goal attempt wide right -- his only kick of the night -- in the Buccaneers' 27-10 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday.
Analysis: Borregales' unfortunate track record in game action this preseason appears likely to cost him in his job battle with incumbent Ryan Succop. In addition to Saturday night's fourth-quarter miss, Borregales also failed to connect on a would-be game-winning 49-yard try against the Dolphins back in the exhibition opener, though that was preceded by an impressive 55-yard make. Borregales already spent all last season on the Buccaneers' practice squad, and it remains to be seen if that's what's also…read more

Boinks game-winning FG attempt
Borregales drilled a 55-yard field goal, hit the right upright on a 49-yard would-be game-winning attempt and connected on all three extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.
Analysis: Borregales' miss obviously couldn't have been more in the spotlight and sullied what had otherwise been a highly impressive night. Greg Auman of The Athletic reports that Borregales' 55-yard make was five yards longer than any regular-season Buccaneers field goal since 2019, and the nearly perfect effort mirrored a lot of the rookie's training camp practice performances. However, Borregales conceded after the game the snap on the missed would-be game-winning attempt was perfect and put the…read more

Keeping heat on Succop
Borregales, who most recently went 6-for-7 on field-goal attempts in Wednesday's joint practice with the Dolphins, continues impressing in his battle with Ryan Succop for the starting placekicker job, Andrew Crane of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Borregales and Succop have typically been alternating days where they serve as the sole placekicker in practice, and each seemingly continues to run neck-and-neck with the other. Per Crane, Borregales' one miss Wednesday came from approximately 48 yards, and Succop followed with a perfect 7-for-7 tally Thursday, but both kickers have had their share of unblemished and near-perfect efforts thus far. Succop seemingly enjoyed an advantage coming in due to his incumbent status, but if each player…read more

Impressing early in camp
Borregales, who's attempting to unseat Ryan Succop for the starting placekicker job this summer, has gone 7-for-8 on field-goal attempts in each of his first two training camp practices, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Head coach Todd Bowles is alternating camp practices between his two kickers, and Borregales' first two sessions came Thursday and Saturday. Auman reports Borregales' longest kicks Thursday were about five yards farther than Succop's farthest attempts, and Saturday, he made his first six attempts before hitting the right upright from 51 yards out for his only miss. Bowles essentially declared the battle a draw thus far, noting "both of them are healthy, both of them are kicking good right now."
