Reports for offseason workouts
Burrow (knee) reported for the start of Cincinnati's offseason workouts Monday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burrow is recovering from a left MCL sprain, but he avoided surgery for the injury, and the Bengals haven't expressed any significant public concern about the star quarterback's health. It remains to be seen, however, whether Burrow's rehab has progressed enough for him to begin offseason activities without any limitations. In any case, Burrow now will benefit from another offseason to build chemistry with top wideouts Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the latter of whom is recovering from left…read more

Has MCL sprain, won't need surgery
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday that Burrow (knee) has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: According to Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site, Burrow is also nursing a pinkie injury, but he shouldn't require offseason surgery to address either issue. Additionally, Taylor categorized Burrow's MCL sprain as an aggravation of the injury he dealt with in December. The Bengals are hopeful that after a couple months of rest, Burrow will be ready to resume workouts as a full participant at some point during OTAs.

Shouldn't need offseason surgery
Burrow isn't expected to need surgery on the knee injury he suffered in the final minutes of the Super Bowl, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: While the injury likely impacted his mobility late in the fourth quarter, Burrow never missed a snap. Still, it's apparently serious enough to require some type of rehab process, which Burrow should have time to complete before spring practices in May and June. Rapoport says the injury "shouldn't drastically alter [Burrow's] offseason."

Overcome by pressure
Burrow completed 22 of 33 passes for 263 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 23-20 Super Bowl LVI loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Burrow's highlight reel play of the game came on the first snap of the second half, when he connected with Tee Higgins for a 75-yard touchdown. However, besides that connection, Burrow managed only 5.9 yards per attempt and was under consistent pressure in the final two quarters of the contest. Despite the disappointing end to the campaign, Burrow led Cincinnati to an impressive postseason run that included upset wins over the Titans and Chiefs -- two of the favorites in the AFC. He'll now turn…read more

Leads Bengals to Super Bowl
Burrow completed 23 of 38 passes for 250 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game.
Analysis: Burrow and the entire Bengals offense got off to a slow start, as they managed only three points through the first 29 minutes of game time. However, he connected with Samaje Perine on a screen pass that went for a 41-yard touchdown just before halftime. Burrow then led the team to three scoring drives in four possessions spanning the third and fourth quarters, highlighted by a two-yard touchdown toss to Ja'Marr Chase. That scoring spree gave the team the chance to seal the upset win in…read more

Headed to AFC Championship Game
Burrow completed 28 of 37 passes for 348 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 19-16 divisional-round win over the Titans.
Analysis: Burrow was under constant pressure -- he was sacked nine times and hit on several other occasions -- but still managed to move the Bengals' offense effectively for the majority of the game. He distributed the ball well Tee Higgins, Ja'Marr Chase and C.J. Uzomah and connected with the trio for five completions of over 20 yards. The end result was that Burrow reached 300 passing yards for the fifth time in his last seven games. He capped the effort with a 19-yard completion to put the Bengals in…read more

Solid playoff debut
Burrow completed 24 of 34 pass attempts for 244 yards and two touchdowns against Las Vegas on Saturday.
Analysis: The numbers are modest at a glance, but the Bengals controlled this game from start to finish and it's possible that they could have done more if they needed to. With that said, Burrow did most of his damage early, throwing one touchdown to each of Tyler Boyd and C.J. Uzomah in roughly the first third of the game and not doing a whole lot afterward. With higher stakes in the second playoff round it's possible that Burrow and the Bengals take a more aggressive approach.

Back to full practice
Burrow (knee) practiced fully Tuesday, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: In his last appearance Week 17, Burrow limped off the field moments before Evan McPherson (groin) kicked a game-winning field goal in a 34-31 victory over Kansas City. The QB eventually followed a DNP/LP/FP practice regimen during prep for the season finale, and while he entered this past weekend as questionable, he didn't travel with the Bengals and was ruled out ahead of a contest at Cleveland that had no impact on Cincinnati's playoff seeding. Burrow's knee injury may have been fortuitous,…read more

Downgraded to out
Burrow (knee/rest) will not travel to Cleveland and has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The plan all along has been to rest Burrow, so this hardly is a surprise. Ben Baby of ESPN.com did relay the second-year quarterback was a full participant in Friday's practice, essentially confirming Burrow's designation is simply a procedural one. Expect the star quarterback to face no such limitations when the Bengals square off against their playoff opponent next week.

Listed as questionable for Sunday
Burrow (knee/rest) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Ben Baby of ESPN.com relays that the QB was listed as a full practice participant Friday, but the plan this weekend is to rest Burrow with the postseason in mind, which sets the stage for Brandon Allen to start Sunday. It remains to be seen, however, if Burrow is in uniform versus Cleveland, as Jake Browning could be promoted from the practice squad to back up Allen in Week 18.

Limited Thursday
Burrow (knee/rest) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Though Burrow was back on the field after sitting out Wednesday's session entirely, his practice activity shouldn't be taken as evidence that he'll play in Sunday's regular-season finale in Cleveland. Head coach Zac Taylor and Burrow himself have both already said that the signal-caller won't start Sunday, with the Bengals instead planning to hold him out to preserve his health for the playoffs. Back at practice
Burrow (knee) was present for Thursday's practice, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Burrow was rested during Wednesday's session, but his return to the field Thursday supports the notion that the knee issue he's managing isn't a major one. That said, the plan is for Burrow to not start Sunday's regular-season finale against the Browns, with backup QB Brandon Allen in line to draw the Week 18 assignment.

Not practicing, plans to sit Sunday
Burrow (knee/rest) didn't practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Per Ben Baby of ESPN.com Burrow plans to practice at some point this week. Though the quarterback's sore right knee isn't considered a major issue, head coach Zac Taylor already acknowledged that Burrow will be rested Sunday against the Browns, while Brandon Allen draws the starting assignment for Cincinnati. Since the Bengals don't have any other quarterbacks on the roster at the moment, Burrow could still be active this weekend as Allen's backup.

Not expected to start Sunday
Burrow (knee) said that he doesn't expect to play in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Browns, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: Burrow said Wednesday that his knee is "sore, but not bad," after he appeared to sustain the injury late in the Bengals' thrilling 34-31 win over the Chiefs in Week 17. He added that he could play Week 18 if needed, but with Cincinnati unlikely to dramatically improve its playoff positioning in the regular-season finale, the team appears prepared to rest or limit Burrow and several other key contributors with an eye on entering the playoffs in optimal health. Could be rest candidate
Head coach Zac Taylor said he hasn't decided whether Burrow (leg) or any other key starters will rest for Sunday's game against the Browns with the Bengals having already secured a playoff spot, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Cincinnati enters Week 18 in the No. 3 spot in the AFC standings, but it could have the opportunity to clinch the No. 1 seed with a win and losses by the Titans, Chiefs and Patriots or a win plus a Bills win and losses by the Titans and Chiefs. That may incentivize Taylor enough to put his best players on the field, even though Burrow could probably benefit from some rest after the quarterback acknowledged his leg got twisted late in late week's win over Kansas City. Banged up late in huge win
Burrow completed 30 of 39 passes for 446 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 34-31 win over the Chiefs. He added 10 yards on five rushing attempts, but Field Yates of ESPN reports that Burrow was sidelined for the game's final few plays after taking a hit and hobbling off the field.
Analysis: After falling in an early 14-0 hole, Burrow connected with Ja'Marr Chase for a 72-yard touchdown. The Chiefs restored their 14-point lead on the ensuing drive, only for Burrow to answer again with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Chase. Burrow completed 37 of 46 pass attempts for 525 yards and four touchdowns against Baltimore on Sunday. He also rushed twice for 11 yards.
Analysis: Burrow did almost whatever he wanted against a badly depleted Ravens secondary, propelling each of his three standout wide receivers to big fantasy production Sunday, especially Tee Higgins (12 receptions for 194 yards and two touchdowns) and Ja'Marr Chase (seven receptions for 125 yards). Makes most of limited volume
Burrow completed 15 of 22 pass attempts for 157 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 15-10 win over the Broncos.
Analysis: As indicated by the score, this matchup was dominated by the defensive units. As a result, Burrow's volume was limited, and his 22 pass attempts were his lowest mark since Week 3. Even so, he was fairly efficient when he did take to the air, with the highlight of his performance being a 56-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd late in the third quarter. While Burrow had racked up decent yardage in his last two games, he has now failed to throw for multiple touchdowns in five of his last six games.

Takes all practice reps Thursday
Burrow (finger) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Burrow's return to the field as a full participant confirms that his absence from Wednesday's session was maintenance-related. The quarterback initially suffered the injury to a finger on his throwing hand in the Bengals' Week 13 loss to the Chargers, but he played through the issue Week 14 and turned in one of his better outings of the season in a 26-23 overtime loss to San Francisco, finishing with 25 completions on 34 attempts for 348 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Big numbers in tough loss
Burrow completed 25 of 34 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 26-23 overtime loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: The Bengals' offense was sluggish through three quarters before Burrow caught fire in the fourth, hitting Ja'Marr Chase for a pair of scores to force extra time and then leading Cincy to a field goal on the opening possession of OT. However, San Francisco responded with a game-winning touchdown when they got their turn with the ball. Analysis: Per Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site, Burrow was held out of drills Wednesday so he could rest the dislocated pinkie finger on his throwing hand. Burrow said Wednesday that his dislocated right pinkie finger is feeling better, despite a degree of swelling, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burrow -- who hasn't thrown since Sunday's loss to the Chargers -- added that he plans to practice a little bit Wednesday. Whether that translates into him officially being listed as a limited participant won't be known until the Bengals release their first official Week 14 injury report, but in any case, the signal-caller said he doesn't expect to sit out this weekend's game against the 49ers, according to Baby.

Could be limited in practice
Head coach Zac Taylor said Burrow could be limited in practice for the start of Week 14 prep after dislocating his right pinkie finger in Sunday's 41-22 loss to the Chargers, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: According to Ben Baby of ESPN.com, Taylor noted that Burrow "feels good" after playing through the injury Sunday, but the second-year quarterback could get some extra maintenance early on this week in any case to relieve some of the pressure on his pinkie finger. Unless the finger swells up and presents more difficulty with his throwing in practice than expected, Burrow doesn't look to be at any major risk of missing the Bengals' upcoming game against the 49ers this weekend.

Suffers finger injury in loss
Burrow completed 24 of 40 passes for 300 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the Bengals' 41-22 loss to the Chargers on Sunday. He also rushed once for six yards and lost a fumble, the latter a first-quarter play on which he suffered a a dislocated pinkie finger, Marisa Contipelli of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Burrow's injury ultimately didn't lead to a subpar fantasy day by any stretch, even though the two interceptions were certainly a blemish. However, the 2020 first overall pick hit the 300-yard mark for the third time this season and extended his streak with at least one touchdown pass to three games when he connected with Tee Higgins on a 29-yard scoring toss to start a comeback from 24-0. Responsible for two TDs in win
Burrow completed 20 of 24 pass attempts for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception while scoring another touchdown on an eight-yard rush in Sunday's 41-10 win over the Steelers.
Analysis: The Bengals' defense and rushing attack led the charge in an important win over an AFC North rival, but Burrow was able to get in on the ground onslaught with a touchdown of his own. It was the 24-year-old's first rushing score of the season after posting three in his shortened rookie campaign. Burrow completed 20 of 29 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 32-13 win over the Raiders. He gained 11 rushing yards on three carries.
Analysis: The yardage total was his lowest of the season, and the second-year QB also lost a fumble, but Burrow didn't have to do too much on a day in which Joe Mixon was running wild. He had another sequence with a big play to Higgins accompanied by a touchdown pass in the third quarter, following up a 54-yard gain with an eight-yard score to Joe Mixon on the very next play. Analysis: Burrow led the Bengals' second-half charge after Cincinnati surprisingly found itself down 14-0 at halftime. The 2020 first overall pick outdueled this year's top selection Trevor Lawrence over the final two quarters, with a pair of touchdown passes to C.J. Uzomah and numerous key completions to Tyler Boyd and Ja'Marr Chase critical to the hosts outscoring Jacksonville by a 24-7 margin over the final 30 minutes. Tosses three TDs in road win
Burrow completed 14 of 18 passes for 172 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 24-10 win over the Steelers. He added seven yards on five rushing attempts.
Analysis: Burrow was picked off in the first quarter, but Ben Roethlisberger gave it right back with an interception of his own, and Burrow capitalized with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd to open the scoring. After the Steelers tied it with 1:04 left before halftime, Burrow responded with a 34-yard strike to Ja'Marr Chase just 27 seconds later to take a 14-10 lead in the locker room. Uneven effort Week 2
Burrow completed 19 of 30 passes for 207 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in Sunday's 20-17 loss in Chicago.
Analysis: After posting 261 yards and two TDs without an interception during a Week 1 victory against the Vikings, Burrow fell back to earth a bit, posting the first turnovers of his second campaign. His first one was particularly backbreaking, as a pass intended for Tyler Boyd near midfield was picked off and returned to the house to put the Bears up, 17-3, with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game. However, Burrow made up for the foibles with two garbage-time scores to Ja'Marr Chase (42 yards)…read more

More snaps under center
Burrow took 53 percent of Sunday's snaps under center after averaging around 80 percent of his snaps in shotgun formation last year, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports.
Analysis: The change possibly signals the Bengals are more committed to the running game this season, particularly in OL coach Frank Pollack's wide zone-centric scheme, and that taking snaps under center suggests play-action can be more effective. Of course, it's also easier to emphasize the run and taking snaps under center when you already have the lead, as the Bengals did for most of the second half last week.

Tosses two TDs in triumphant return
Burrow completed 20 of 27 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over Minnesota. He added two yards on one rushing attempt.
Analysis: After failing to generate any points for most of the first half, Burrow tossed a pair of touchdowns in the final two minutes before halftime. He found Tee Higgins for a two-yard score with 1:51 remaining, then connected with rookie fifth-overall pick Ja'Marr Chase for a 50-yard touchdown just 1:16 later. Back in action Sunday
Burrow played the opening series in the Bengals' 29-26 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, misfiring on his only pass attempt.
Analysis: Head coach Zac Taylor apparently didn't want to deviate from his plan of only having Burrow handle the opening possession, regardless of how short that drive ended up being. As it turned out, the Bengals actually went backwards with the second-year signal-caller under center due to an unnecessary roughness penalty, and Burrow's only attempt, which went to Ja'Marr Chase, was incomplete due to a drop on the rookie receiver's part. Having broken the ice, albeit briefly, with respect to getting…read more

Will pick up preseason snaps
Burrow is scheduled to receive snaps in Sunday's preseason finale versus the Dolphins, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: While the quarterback is poised to get in some game action for the first time since he sustained a season-ending knee injury last November, Burrow isn't expected to draw extended work Sunday. With that in mind, head coach Zac Taylor acknowledged that the 2020 No. 1 overall pick's stint against Miami will be "very limited." In any case, Burrow's looming preseason appearance further solidifies that he'll be good to go Week 1, when the Bengals host the Vikings.

Won't face Washington
Coach Zac Taylor said Monday that Burrow will not suit up for Friday's preseason game against Washington, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: Burrow has not been ruled out for the entirety of the preseason, but he'll at least miss the Bengals' second exhibition contest. It's reasonable for the team to take a cautious approach to Burrow's return to game action, given the severity of the injury he's working his way back from. Some preseason action possible
While Burrow (knee) will not play in the preseason opener against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor didn't rule him out for the entirety of the preseason, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Burrow is still on track to start Week 1 of the regular season. "I'm not ruling anything out for the further games," Taylor said. "All I'm ready to speak on is Week 1. Those are the decisions we've made. It will be a quick turnaround next week for Washington, so we'll make those decisions relatively early in the week. And then Miami, we've got a lot more time before we play that third game."

No go for preseason opener
Burrow (knee) will not play in the preseason opener next week, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.
Analysis: This shouldn't be a surprise whatsoever given the team's cautious nature regarding its franchise quarterback. Burrow has struggled through the first few days of training camp to gain any sort of confidence in his pocket awareness, a seemingly natural progression in his return from a torn ACL and MCL. A lack of confidence in his knee, and his offensive line, could have disastrous effects in live-game action, so it's hard to see the team trotting out the 2020 No. 1 overall selection unless the…read more

Offense struggling mightily
Burrow and the Cincinnati offense have struggled to move the ball in training-camp practices, with the Bengals' defensive line often putting intense pressure on the team's quarterbacks, Jay Morrison and Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: There are two big concerns about Burrow heading into 2021; how mobile he is after recovering from a torn ACL and MCL, and how well his offensive line will be able to protect him. Thus far, the second concern hasn't been put to rest. It's not unusual for defenses to be ahead of offenses at this time of year, but the way Dehner describes the imbalance -- ("... most lopsided practice in a long time ...") -- is certainly disturbing.

Unlikely to play in preseason
Bengals president Mike Brown doesn't expect Burrow to play in any preseason games, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burrow made a smooth recovery from Dec. 2 knee surgery and now has been cleared for 11-on-11 drills at the start of training camp. Even so, the Bengals are leaning toward holding him out of games until Week 1, relying on practice to ramp up his workload and evaluate his health and performance. Burrow (knee) is healthy and will be on the field for the start of training camp this week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The Bengals placed WR Riley Lees (undisclosed) and Renell Wren (quadriceps) on the PUP list Sunday, and Burrow apparently won't be joining them and will be ready to practice this week. The 2020 first-overall pick's rookie campaign was derailed after 10 games due to a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee, but he's had no hiccups in his rehab over the past eight-plus months. Expects to be healthy by camp
Burrow (knee) said Tuesday that he's aiming to be 100 percent healthy by the time training camp arrives in late July, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burrow estimated that his surgically repaired left knee was at about 85 percent during this week's minicamp, and he said he experienced no setbacks during any of the Bengals' nine OTA sessions during the offseason. He still has some work to do to get prepared for training camp, but even if he has some limitations in the Bengals' initial practices, he looks well on track to be available for the Week 1 matchup with the Vikings on Sept. 12.

'All systems go' for opener
Burrow (knee) is considered "all systems go" for the Bengals' season opener against the Vikings, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. "He's on track for full go for the start of the season," Dr. Neal ElAttrache said.
Analysis: The second-year quarterback continues to make encouraging progress in his recovery from reconstructive knee surgery in December and it appears a Week 1 return is not just possible, but expected. Per Schefter, the doctors will restrict Burrow from taking contact until nine months out from the surgery, which could mean no preseason reps. Reunited with college teammate
The Bengals added another elite pass-catching option for Burrow (knee) in the first-round Thursday, drafting college teammate Ja'Marr Chase from LSU.
Analysis: Given Justin Jefferson's production in his rookie year in 2020, it's easy to forget that it was Chase that actually led the way during Burrow's Heisman Trophy season in 2019. Burrow now has three excellent wideouts in Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins and Chase; hopefully, his offensive linemen will buy him more time this season to find them.

Burrow (knee) said Tuesday in an interview with Chris Collinsworth on the "Pro Football Focus Podcast" that he's "very optimistic" about his rehab progress and expects to play Week 1, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: Working his way back from Dec. 2 surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL, Burrow has now resumed throwing from a dropback position, in addition to running and weightlifting. He isn't doing rollouts or any change-of-direction work, but that's to be expected at this middle stage of the rehab process. No setbacks have been reported so far, but the young QB still has a long process ahead, hoping to make it back for the start of the 2021 season. Still, there appears to be optimism that Burrow could be ready to kick off the 2021 campaign as long as he can avoid setbacks in his rehab. Adam Schefter of ESPN has noted that such injuries usually carry a 9-to-12-month recovery timetable, which could put his availability for next year in jeopardy, but Ben Baby of ESPN.com's confirmation that coach Zac Taylor expects Burrow to be ready for 2021 would suggest that the Bengals are confident his recovery will be on the quicker end. The rookie quarterback will receive an MRI to confirm the severity of his injury Monday, but given that he wrote "see ya next year" in a message shared via his official Twitter account, it looks like Burrow is destined to miss the rest of the 2020 season. Burrow went 19-for-30 passing with 183 yards, no touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's 27-3 loss to Baltimore. He also ran for 10 yards on three carries, fumbling twice and committing one lost fumble.
Analysis: It was a turbulent outing for the No. 1 overall pick in his debut against Wink Martindale's defense, as he was held to a season low in passing, also failing to record a TD in a game for the first time in his career. Analysis: It's a historically low percentage of completions of that type, since the stat first started being tracked, but it's not all attributable to Burrow's failings. Analysis: The rookie finished with a strong line despite much of his success coming in the shorter areas of the field, as evidenced by his 5.2 yards per attempt. Burrow did appear to take another step forward in his development through sheer volume of reps if nothing else, and he connected with three different pass catchers in C.J. Leading healthy offense
Burrow will lead a healthy offense into Sunday's game against the Chargers, as the Bengals don't have any offensive players on their Week 1 injury report.
Analysis: Some might call it a minor miracle for both A.J. Green and John Ross to be healthy at the same time. In any case, the Bengals also have Tyler Boyd, Auden Tate and Tee Higgins at wide receiver, plus Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard in the backfield and C.J. Uzomah at tight end.
