Limited to special teams in Week 18
Snell played exclusively on special teams during the Steelers' 28-14 win over the Browns on Sunday.
Analysis: The 24-year-old lost out on his role as the No. 2 running back to undrafted rookie Jaylen Warren in 2022, and Snell wasn't on the field for any offensive snaps over the final four weeks of the regular season. The 2019 fourth-rounder rushed 20 times for 90 yards while securing both of his targets for 17 yards this season. Snell is set to become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him seek out another team since he's lost out on work in Pittsburgh…read more

Racks up 35 yards from scrimmage
Snell rushed six times for 24 yards while securing his lone target for 11 yards during the Steelers' 19-16 win over Atlanta on Sunday.
Analysis: Snell was limited by a knee injury during Thursday's practice session but was cleared to play in Week 13 after practicing fully Friday. He logged a season-high 62 rushing yards against the Colts last week since Pittsburgh's backfield was shorthanded, but he was less involved in Week 13 since both Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren were back to full health. While Snell was relatively efficient with his limited opportunities, he played just nine offensive snaps in the win and is unlikely to have a…read more

Cleared for Week 13
Snell doesn't have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against Atlanta, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Analysis: Snell popped up on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant due to a knee injury, but he returned to full participation Friday and is cleared for Week 13. Najee Harris also doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's matchup despite an oblique injury that held him to just one limited practice, and Harris' top backup, Jaylen Warren (hamstring), is listed as questionable despite practicing in full throughout Week 13 prep. With Warren inactive and Harris forced out of Week 12,…read more

Dealing with injury
Snell (knee) was listed as a limited participant on the Steelers' injury report Thursday, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
Analysis: Snell appears to have picked up a knee issue at some point during practice, as he popped up on the Week 13 injury report for the first time Thursday. The third-string running back also logged a season-high 12 rushes for 62 yards and a touchdown with Jaylen Warren (hamstring) inactive and Najee Harris (abdomen) forced out during Monday's win versus the Colts. While the nature of this injury is still unclear, Snell will have one more practice to return to full participation, or else he could be…read more

Scores TD after Harris injury
Snell rushed 12 times for 62 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 24-17 win over the Colts. He also caught his only target for six yards.
Analysis: Najee Harris was in and out of the game in the first half before being ruled out at halftime due to an abdominal injury. With Jaylen Warren (hamstring) inactive, Snell took over as the lead back after Harris' exit, with Anthony McFarland spelling him. Snell punched in the go-ahead touchdown from two yards out early in the fourth quarter, and he could maintain the lead role in Week 13 against the Falcons if Harris and Warren remain sidelined.

Doesn't play on offense
Snell didn't record any touches during the Steelers' 24-20 loss to the Jets on Sunday.
Analysis: Snell played 69 percent of Pittsburgh's snaps on special teams Sunday, but he was held off the field offensively for a third consecutive week. The 2019 fourth-rounder is firmly behind Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren on the Steelers' depth chart.

Limited to special-teams work again
Snell didn't record any touches during the Steelers' 29-17 loss to the Browns on Thursday.
Analysis: For a second consecutive week, Snell didn't play any offensive snaps and was limited to special-teams work. The 24-year-old hasn't yet recorded any touches this season and is unlikely to see much work behind Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

Plays exclusively on special teams
Snell didn't record any touches during the Steelers' 17-14 loss to New England on Sunday.
Analysis: Snell was on the field for 73 percent of Pittsburgh's snaps on special teams Sunday, but he didn't play any offensive snaps during the narrow loss. The 2019 fourth-rounder hasn't yet touched the ball over the first two weeks of the regular season, and it seems unlikely that he'll see significant work in the Steelers' offense as long as Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are healthy.

Operates as clear No. 3 back
Snell didn't record any touches during Sunday's 23-20 overtime win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Snell was listed as the No. 3 running back on the Steelers' Week 1 depth chart, and his usage against Cincinnati was consistent with that layout. Although Najee Harris sustained a foot injury late in Sunday's matchup, Jaylen Warren was the running back who replaced him down the stretch, while Snell played exclusively on special teams during the season opener. Harris' injury isn't believed to be a serious concern, but his Week 2 status isn't yet clear. Even if Harris is limited or held out…read more

Buried on Week 1 depth chart
Snell is listed as the No. 3 running back on the Steelers' Week 1 depth chart, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Although Snell earned a spot on the 53-man roster over Anthony McFarland, undrafted rookie Jaylen Warren appears poised to begin the season as the team's top backup behind starting running back Najee Harris. Snell rushed just 36 times for 98 yards while securing two of four targets for 13 yards despite appearing in every game for the Steelers last season, and he's unlikely to have a significant fantasy role in 2022 as long as Harris remains healthy.

Secures spot on final roster
Snell is included on Pittsburgh's 53-man roster ahead of the 2022 regular season, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Analysis: Snell was relatively quiet during the preseason after recovering from a knee injury, as he rushed eight times for 13 yards while securing two of three targets for 15 yards and a touchdown over two appearances. However, he was still able to fend off Anthony McFarland for a spot on the 53-man roster. Najee Harris will serve as Pittsburgh's clear lead back again, and it's possible that Snell has to settle for a No. 3 role in the Steelers' backfield after undrafted rookie Jaylen Warren earned a…read more

Still competing for roster spot
Snell is still competing for a spot on the Steelers' 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's preseason finale against the Lions, Chris Adamski of TribLive.com reports.
Analysis: Snell served as Pittsburgh's No. 2 running back last year, but he isn't guaranteed a roster spot as a backup running back in 2022. He sat out the preseason opener against Seattle due to a knee injury and was relatively quiet during the matchup against Jacksonville, rushing three times for minus-two yards while securing two of three targets for 15 yards and a touchdown. Reaches end zone against Jaguars
Snell rushed three times for minus-two yards while securing two of three targets for 15 yards and a touchdown during the Steelers' 16-15 preseason win over the Jaguars on Saturday.
Analysis: Snell drew the start during Saturday's preseason matchup, and he caught an 11-yard touchdown pass late in the first half. The 2019 fourth-rounder split time in the backfield with Jaylen Warren during the first half. Warren recorded 27 yards from scrimmage on six touches, but Snell was one of two Steelers to reach the end zone during the narrow win. Snell and Warren will likely continue to compete to serve as Pittsburgh's No. 2 running back ahead of the regular season.

Returns to practice
Snell (knee) recently returned to practice, Chris Adamski of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Analysis: Snell dealt with a right knee injury late last week and didn't appear in Saturday's preseason win over Seattle. However, he now appears to be healthy once again. The 2019 fourth-rounder will likely have a chance to garner some playing time during Saturday's preseason matchup against the Jaguars as he competes with Anthony McFarland and Jaylen Warren for a role behind Najee Harris in the Steelers' backfield.

Not likely to suit up Saturday
Snell (knee) is unlikely to play in Saturday's preseason game versus the Seahawks, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Snell took a seat at Thursday's practice, where he was seen with a large wrap on his right knee. That was scaled down to a sleeve by Saturday, but he wasn't in uniform ahead of the contest. It's unclear if top running back Najee Harris will join Snell in street clothes, but if both sit out, the Steelers backfield will consist of Anthony McFarland, Jaylen Warren, Mataeo Durant and Master Teague.

Not practicing Thursday
Snell (knee) wasn't spotted at Thursday's practice, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Pryor notes that Snell left Wednesday's session with a pretty big wrap on his right knee, so he's a candidate to sit out Saturday's preseason opener against the Seahawks. Snell is listed behind top option Najee Harris on the Steelers' posted unofficial depth chart, with Anthony McFarland, Jaylen Warren, Mataeo Durant and Master Teague also in the mix for backfield slotting.

Works with starters at goal line
Snell worked with the Steelers' first-team offense during goal-line drills at Monday's practice, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Snell lost weight during the offseason and has impressed over the first week of training camp. While Najee Harris is in line to serve as the Steelers' lead back this year, Snell was on the field with the first-team offense during Monday's goal-line drills. Slims down during offseason
Snell has trimmed down during the offseason, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: While Snell's new weight isn't yet clear, his frame now resembles a build more typical of a running back. The 24-year-old averaged a career-low 2.7 yards per carry last season. However, he should have the chance to compete during training camp for the No. 2 job at running back behind Najee Harris, who established himself as the team's three-down back as a rookie last year.

Posts 12 carries in Week 18
Snell rushed 12 times for 22 yards in Sunday's 16-13 overtime win over the Ravens.
Analysis: The 2019 fourth-rounder recorded double-digit touches for the first time this year after Najee Harris sustained an elbow injury on the team's first drive. However, Snell struggled mightily with efficiency and averaged just 1.8 yards per carry. Harris returned to Sunday's matchup after suffering his injury, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him available for the team's wild-card matchup against Kansas City on Sunday. Six touches in loss
Snell totaled five carries for 20 yards while securing his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 36-10 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: The Steelers failed to generate much offensive production in Sunday's blowout loss, but this allowed Snell to see some action in the second half. His six touches in Week 16 represented his highest total of the season, but he's had a minimal impact behind rookie Najee Harris for most of the year.

Musters 13 yards in win
Snell rushed twice for 13 yards in Sunday's 20-19 win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Snell recorded double-digit yardage for the second time this season in Sunday's win, but his workload remained limited behind lead back Najee Harris. Snell played just two offensive snaps and has been a non-factor for the Steelers as depth at running back.

Two carries against Bengals
Snell recorded two carries for five yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Snell has now recorded two carries in three of the last four weeks, but he's continued to play primarily on special teams. His seven offensive snaps in Sunday's blowout loss ranked fourth among the team's running backs, as Najee Harris (36 snaps), Anthony McFarland (12) and Kalen Ballage (eight) all saw more playing time on the offensive side of the ball.

Two carries in loss
Snell recorded two carries for seven yards in Sunday's 41-37 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Snell has recorded at least one touch in each of the last four games, but he hasn't had a fantasy-relevant role behind rookie Najee Harris. Although Harris briefly went to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion Sunday, he returned to the field late in the game, which is a good sign for his Week 12 availability. Assuming Harris remains active, Snell's fantasy potential will remain limited.

One carry in tie
Snell recorded one carry for four yards in Sunday's 16-16 tie with the Lions.
Analysis: Snell played on just six of the Steelers' 87 offensive snaps Sunday. With rookie Najee Harris operating as the team's three-down back, Snell remains far off the fantasy radar. It remains likely that the 23-year-old's only path to consistent production would come if Harris were to be sidelined with an injury. The Steelers will square off against the Chargers in Week 11.

Limited work against Bears
Snell totaled two carries for six yards in Monday's 29-27 win over the Bears.
Analysis: Snell was on the field for just two offensive snaps in Monday's victory, but he recorded double-digit touches for the first time since Week 5. The 23-year-old has tallied just 10 carries for 27 yards while hauling in one of three targets for seven yards across the first 10 games of the year.

Racks up seven yards
Snell hauled in his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 15-10 win over the Browns.

Totals 20 yards against Denver
Snell rushed five times for 20 yards while failing to secure his lone target in Sunday's 27-19 win over the Broncos.
Analysis: Snell had rushed for just one yard across the first four weeks of the year, but he was more involved against Denver and played a season-high 13 offensive snaps while Najee Harris dealt with cramping. However, the 2019 fourth-rounder should return to a minimal role if Harris is back to full health for Sunday's Week 6 matchup against Seattle.

Minimal usage in Week 4
Snell recorded one carry for zero yards and failed to haul in his lone target in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Snell played a season-high eight offensive snaps against Green Bay, but he failed to record any yardage in the loss. The 23-year-old has had a minimal role on offense behind rookie Najee Harris, who played 80 percent of the Steelers' offensive snaps in Week 4.

Limited role once again
Snell recorded two carries for one yard in Sunday's 26-17 loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: Snell was utilized exclusively on special teams in last week's season opener, and he saw minimal offensive work in Week 2. Rookie running back Najee Harris played 95 percent of the Steelers' offensive snaps Sunday after he was on the field for every snap last week, so Snell's playing time should remain limited.

Doesn't play on offense Week 1
Snell logged 19 special-teams snaps during Sunday's 23-16 win over the Bills.
Analysis: Snell failed to see any snaps on offense, as rookie running back Najee Harris was on the field for 100 percent of the team's plays. Though Snell currently sits second on the depth chart, Harris' three-down skill set will likely make it hard for the veteran to see enough action to maintain fantasy relevance.

Eight carries in preseason debut
Snell carried the ball eight times for 28 yards and also recorded one reception on one target for four yards in Friday's preseason game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Snell had not participated in any of the team's preseason contests to this point and also missed significant periods of practice due to a lower body injury. He was the first back on the field for Pittsburgh -- Najee Harris did not play -- and participated on offense at various points in every quarter. Should play this week
Head coach Mike Tomlin said Snell (lower body) will play in Friday's preseason game against Carolina, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Snell has been in and out of practice throughout August and hasn't played in any of the Steelers' exhibitions. It's hard to say where he stands on the depth chart, as competition for backfield roles appears open behind first-round pick and presumed starter Najee Harris, who will be held out of Friday's preseason contest. Snell still could be the team's No. 2 running back, but it's also possible he gets cut before the Aug. 31 deadline to chop rosters to 53 players.

Analysis: Snell had been working on an exercise bike last week and participated in individual drills recently, but Tuesday's practice marked the first time he received carries. While it's still not clear what injury kept the 23-year-old sidelined, he appears to be over the issue. Snell (undisclosed) got in some work on an exercise bike Monday, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Analysis: While he's still not ready to practice, this supports the notion that Snell's issue isn't a long-term concern. However, Snell was unable to record any yardage after topping 100 yards from scrimmage Week 15. He also received two carries inside the 5-yard line, but he couldn't reach the end zone. May have earned increased role
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin hinted Tuesday that Snell may continue to have a sizable role in the team's offensive game plan Week 16 against the Colts, even if James Conner (quadriceps) is available for the contest, Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network reports. "You gotta admit Benny was an awesome element in a game that didn't have many," Tomlin said, in reference to Monday's 27-17 loss to the Bengals. "[Snell will] have the opportunity to be impactful [Week 16]."
Analysis: While Conner was inactive Monday, Snell stepped in as Pittsburgh's lead back and was one of the few bright spots in the disappointing loss, rushing 18 times for 84 yards and a score and catching three of four targets for 23 yards. Though Tomlin is hoping Conner will be back Week 16, the 25-year-old had struggled over his last five outings prior to Monday's absence, averaging 3.5 yards per carry and 3.3 yards per target while finding the end zone only once. Fills in admirably on MNF
Snell rushed 18 times for 84 yards and a touchdown while catching three of four targets for 23 yards in Monday's 27-17 loss to Cincinnati.
Analysis: Snell worked as the lead back for the struggling Steelers rushing attack with James Conner (quadriceps) inactive, and he got a consistent workload even as Pittsburgh surprisingly fell behind 17-0 in the first half. The 2019 fourth-round pick contributed to his team's second-half comeback bid with a 29-yard burst -- one yard short of his career-long run -- to set up a field goal in the third quarter and a one-yard touchdown plunge in the fourth. Conner was reportedly close to suiting up in this…read more

Likely to lead backfield Monday
Snell is slated to lead the Steelers backfield Monday at Cincinnati in place of the inactive James Conner (quadriceps), Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: When Snell filled in for Conner back in Weeks 12 and 13, he combined for 65 rushing yards on 24 carries and five catches (on seven targets) for 38 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Jaylen Samuels played in one of those games, turning three touches into 12 yards, with Anthony McFarland notching seven touches for 41 yards in two appearances. Considering the disparity in reps between that duo and Snell, the latter should handle the vast majority of work among Pittsburgh's running backs.

Looks set for MNF start
Snell is expected to start Monday's game in Cincinnati, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Steelers have ruled James Conner (quadriceps) out for Monday night's road contest, a move which leaves Snell as the No. 1 option atop the depth chart. Snell stands to handle the bulk of Pittsburgh's carries, while Jaylen Samuels and Anthony McFarland could see increased opportunities through the air.

Minimal role against Buffalo
Snell recorded three carries for 14 yards in Sunday's 26-15 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Snell saw increased work over the last several weeks with James Conner sidelined, but he was on the field for just five offensive snaps Sunday with Conner back on the field. Snell's seven-yard carry was the longest of the game for Pittsburgh, but he was outpaced by both Conner and Jaylen Samuels offensively. As long as Conner remains healthy, the 2019 fourth-rounder likely will maintain a minimal role within the Steelers offense.

Returns to backup role
Snell will return to a backup role in the Pittsburgh backfield following James Conner's activation from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Snell picked up two starts while Conner was out of the lineup. He had a number of key runs in Pittsburgh's Week 12 win over Baltimore, but Snell took a big step back in Week 13, carrying eight times for five yards in a loss to Washington on Monday. Coming off such an unproductive day against the Football Team, Snell might have to settle for a bit role behind Conner rather than working in a timeshare with Pittsburgh's top back.

Unproductive start
Snell rushed eight times for five yards and caught two of three targets for five yards in Monday's 23-17 loss to Washington.
Analysis: Snell failed to take advantage of his opportunity to start in place of James Conner (illness). The tailback was notably stuffed on a couple goal-line carries during the second quarter, narrowly missing out on a touchdown that otherwise would have somewhat salvaged an unproductive outing. However, with next to nothing to show for his effort Monday, it wouldn't be surprising if Snell takes a back seat in Week 14 should Conner be ready to return.

In line to start again Monday
Snell is slated for another start Monday against Washington with James Conner (illness) unlikely to return to action, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Conner is eligible to be activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, but even if he is the fourth-year running back is slated for a second straight DNP. In that scenario, Snell will head the Steelers backfield yet again, which translated to 19 touches for 93 yards from scrimmage this past Wednesday versus the Ravens. Meanwhile, reserve RB Anthony McFarland turned his four touches into 26 total yards.

Grinds to 93 total yards
Snell carried the ball 16 times for 60 yards and added three receptions for 33 yards Wednesday in the Steelers' 19-14 win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Snell served as the clear lead back with James Conner (reserve/COVID-19 list) sidelined, claiming 16 of the Steelers' 19 carries on the day. He was regularly met at the line of scrimmage early in the game, but he churned out gains of 10 and 13 yards in the fourth quarter to aid his performance. If Conner isn't activated from the list ahead of the Steelers' Week 13 matchup against Washington on Dec. 7, Snell should be in line for a significant workload once again.

Set for major role Week 12
Snell is expected to lead the backfield in Tuesday's game against the Ravens, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: It's still uncertain whether Tuesday's game will actually happen with positive COVID-19 tests in each facility. However, if the game kicks off as planned, Snell should operate as the Steelers' lead back with both James Conner (COVID-19) and Jaylen Samuels (quadriceps) ruled out. That warrants major fantasy upside, although Snell's inefficiencies are a concern. Since taking the lion's share of the work in Week 1, he's been credited with just 2.2 yards per carry over the last eight games, while…read more

Reaches end zone in Week 11
Snell recorded seven carries for 15 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 27-3 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Snell had consistent work on the goal line to begin the season, but he had limited touches over the past several weeks. However, he was more involved in Sunday's comfortable win, and he found pay dirt for the first time since Week 7 with a one-yard rush late in the second quarter. The 22-year-old has seen inconsistent usage this season, but it was encouraging to see him receive seven touches against the Jaguars.

Minimal usage once again
Snell recorded three carries for 12 yards in Sunday's 36-10 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Even though the Steelers maintained a considerable lead throughout the second half, Snell saw minimal work once again as the team elected to rely on its starters down the stretch. As a result, the 2019 fourth-rounder was on the field for just four offensive snaps late in the game. Snell was efficient as he averaged 4.0 yards per carry, but he's been mainly relegated to special teams in recent weeks.

Logs three carries in Week 9
Snell recorded three carries for one yard in Sunday's 24-19 win over the Cowboys.
Analysis: Snell saw the least usage of any Steelers running back Sunday as most of his workload came on special teams once again. The 22-year-old saw some goal-line carries earlier in the season, but his role in the offense has greatly diminished in recent weeks as he's logged just five offensive snaps over the past two games.

No carries in Week 8
Snell didn't see any snaps on offense in Sunday's 28-24 win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Snell was active for Sunday's game and wasn't dealing with any sort of injury leading up to the Week 8 matchup, but he wasn't a factor in the offense as the Steelers leaned heavily on the passing game. The 2019 fourth-rounder had seen some goal-line work over the past several weeks, but he wasn't involved in the game script against Baltimore.

Scores another TD in win
Snell rushed twice for two yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Titans.
Analysis: While Snell was on the field for just six of a possible 79 snaps on offense in the Week 7 contest, both of his carries came on the goal line as he found the end zone for a second consecutive week. The 2019 fourth-round pick saw less playing time than Jaylen Samuels (nine snaps), but Snell's workload on the goal line over the past several weeks has propped up his fantasy value.

Scores TD in win
Snell rushed six times for 17 yards and a TD while also catching his lone target for four yards in Sunday's 38-7 win over the Browns.
Analysis: Snell's workload has been limited with James Conner fully healthy in recent weeks, but his role has been somewhat consistent as he's touched the ball seven times in each of the Steelers' last three contests. The 22-year-old scored the team's final touchdown in Sunday's blowout win, his first of the season. Snell has seen more work than rookie Anthony McFarland to begin the campaign, but his playing time has been limited while Conner has been on the field.

Logs seven carries
Snell ran for 19 yards on seven carries in Sunday's 38-29 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Snell once again struggled to garner much work in Week 5 and was unable to score on a goal-line carry in the first quarter. Although the 2019 fourth-rounder saw slightly more work (seven carries) than Anthony McFarland (three carries), both running backs have limited fantasy potential as long as starter James Conner remains healthy. Over the past three weeks, Snell has recorded just 35 rushing yards.

Struggles in win
Snell totaled 11 yards on seven carries in the Steelers' 28-21 Week 3 win over the Texans Sunday.
Analysis: Snell and rookie Anthony McFarland split carries in a backup role to James Conner, but Snell was unable to get anything going on the ground. His longest run was four yards and he was stuffed on a 1st-and-goal from the one-yard line. Despite an attractive Week 4 matchup against the Titans -- which have allowed 598 rushing yards and three touchdown runs in three games this season -- Snell's fantasy value continues to drop.

One yard from scrimmage Sunday
Snell ran three times for five yards and lost a fumble in Pittsburgh's 26-21 win over Denver on Sunday.
Analysis: Coming off his 113-yard effort in relief of James Conner (ankle) last week, it was thought that Snell might split carries against the Broncos. Instead, he saw just four touches, including a four-yard loss on his only reception of the game. His fumble in the fourth quarter made the game interesting but the Steelers held on to go 2-0 for the first time since 2016. With Conner healthy, Snell will likely take a backseat in Week 3 against the Texans.

Could cut into Conner's snaps
Snell could be in store for more use out of the Pittsburgh backfield even after James Conner fully recovers from his left ankle sprain, Ed Bouchette of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: After Conner went down with the injury in the first half of Monday's win over the Giants, Snell stepped in as the Steelers' top back and turned in an eye-opening performance. He finished with 113 yards on 19 carries, though he wasn't a factor in the passing game with one target across 29 offensive snaps. The lack of involvement as a pass catcher has been the norm for Snell since his college days, so he would more realistically represent a threat to poach carries from Conner when the latter is…read more

Takes advantage of opportunity
Snell finished with 19 rushes for a career-high 113 yards in Monday night's 26-16 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Snell was thrust into a larger role after starting tailback James Conner exited with an ankle injury during the second quarter. With Conner staying sidelined for the remainder of Monday's game, Snell ran with purpose and was rewarded with the second-most single-game carries of his young career. Although he was lucky to not lose a fumble in the third quarter, the 2019 fourth-rounder flashed his upside should Conner's availability be impacted going forward. Could get Week 1 touches
Snell is making a strong case for a role in the Pittsburgh offense, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Steelers have a track record of drafting big running backs and then having them drop weight before their second pro seasons. Snell followed the pattern, reportedly losing 12 pounds this offseason, and it sounds like it's paying off in terms of quickness and agility. Snell trained diligently this offseason and dropped 12 pounds ahead of training camp, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Analysis: Snell rushed for 426 yards and two touchdowns on 108 carries while appearing in 13 games for the Steelers, but he likely wouldn't have seen as much use had top back James Conner missed six games of his own due to injury. That leaves Snell, Jaylen Samuels, Kerrith Whyte, Wendell Smallwood and Trey Edmunds competing for what likely will be two jobs, but Snell at least seems to have the best odds of that group. Snell carried 18 times for 91 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 28-10 win over the Steelers.
Analysis: Snell averaged a healthy 5.1 yards per carry against a tough Ravens front as he topped 90 rushing yards for the second time this season. He ripped off a long gain of 19 yards and followed that up with a four-yard touchdown plunge in the second quarter. Part of timeshare after Conner hurt
Snell rushed seven times for 14 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: James Conner exited with a thigh injury after getting six carries, paving the way for a timeshare between Snell, Kerrith Whyte (six carries) and Jaylen Samuels (three carries, four catches). Even if Conner sits against the Ravens in Week 17, none of the Steelers' other running backs will be advisable options given their fractional deployment.

Assumes backup role
Snell had two carries for one yard in Pittsburgh's 17-10 loss to Buffalo on Sunday night.
Analysis: The return of James Conner found Snell in a familiar role as a backup with his fewest touches since Week 4. May lose snaps, touches to Conner
Snell is expected to split snaps and touches Sunday against the Bills with Jaylen Samuels and James Conner (shoulder), the latter of whom is expected to play, despite being listed as questionable, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: While Conner has missed the Steelers' past three games, Snell has stepped in as the team's top option on the ground, carrying 53 times for 202 yards and a touchdown over that stretch. Samuels, on the other hand, has gained more yards as a receiver (66) than a runner (54) during that span and projects to see most of his work on passing downs moving forward. Struggles to find running room
Snell carried 16 times for 41 yards and lost a fumble in Pittsburgh's 23-17 win over Arizona on Sunday.
Analysis: Since James Conner (shoulder) was forced to leave the game in Week 11, Snell has had 63 carries for 202 yards (3.2 YPC) and one touchdown. Early reports indicate Conner is expected return in Week 15, but if he is unable to play Snell would likely lead the Pittsburgh running attack against a Buffalo defense that has allowed just one rushing touchdown in the last six games.

Should head Week 14 backfield
Snell is expected to work as the Steelers' lead option on the ground Sunday against the Cardinals after James Conner (shoulder) admitted he wouldn't be ready to play in Week 14, Chris Adamski of TribLive.com reports.
Analysis: While Conner has missed the past two games with a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder, Snell has taken a team-leading 37 carries for 161 yards (4.4 YPC) and a touchdown while chipping in two catches for nine yards in back-to-back wins. With Conner out again, expect the status quo to remain in place, making Snell a particularly attractive fantasy option in non-PPR formats. Scores first career touchdown
Snell ran for 63 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and added a four-yard catch during Sunday's 20-13 win over Cleveland.
Analysis: Snell put the Steelers up early in the third quarter, shuffling through the line for the one-yard score. The Steelers didn't trail after that. The rookie has been effective when called upon to step in for James Conner, who missed Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. He has topped 85 yards twice in his last four games and, depending on Conner's health, could lead the way against an Arizona defense Sunday that has been terrible against the pass and only so-so against the run this season.

Snell had only tallied 29 touches in his first seven outings of the season, but the rookie paced the Steelers with 21 carries for 98 yards and contributed a five-yard reception in the victory. He averaged 4.7 yards per tote against a beatable Cincinnati defense and topped 100 scrimmage yards for the first time as well. Snell (knee) didn't take part in Tuesday's practice, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Analysis: On Monday, coach Mike Tomlin relayed his lack of optimism in Snell being able to return Thursday at Cleveland, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. Snell more or less has backed up that sentiment with back-to-back no-shows at practice. Coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that he's not optimistic Snell (knee) will be available for Thursday's contest against the Browns, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Snell is working to recover from surgery to trim his meniscus performed shortly after the Steelers' Oct. 28 win over Miami. The rookie fourth-round pick was given an estimated recovery timeline of 2-to-3 weeks, and Thursday's contest still falls within the latter range of that period.
