Re-ups with Bengals
Allen signed a one-year contract with the Bengals on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Allen started five games last season after Joe Burrow tore his ACL in Week 11. The 28-year-old Allen struggled but was serviceable, completing 63 percent of his passes for 925 yards (6.5 YPA), five touchdowns and four interceptions. Burrow has said he thinks that he'll be ready for Week 1. However, there's still a long road to recovery ahead. Allen would likely start under center if Burrow needs additional time.

Dreadful against Ravens
Allen completed six of 21 passes for 48 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Bengals' Week 17 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: After putting together some valiant efforts filling in for Joe Burrow (knee), Allen fell flat in the season finale. He concluded the 2020 season having made four appearances and posting five touchdowns, three interceptions and 925 passing yards. Allen was playing the campaign on a one-year deal and will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Given the uncertain timeline for Burrow, the Bengals could opt to re-sign Allen to an affordable short-term deal.

Racks up 371 yards
Allen completed 27 of 39 pass attempts for 371 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 16 against the Texans.
Analysis: After being forced to miss the team's Week 15 matchup against the Steelers, Allen returned to action to lead Cincinnati to its second consecutive win. He worked efficiently and spread passes around, targeting four different receivers at least six times. Allen showed particular rapport with Tee Higgins, connecting with him for long plays of 30, 22 and 20 yards -- the last of which went for a touchdown. Allen is likely to draw another start to close the season in Week 17 against the Ravens.

Listed as active Sunday
Allen (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Texans, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: Though coach Zac Taylor hasn't named a starting QB for the contest, Hobson indicates that "indications throughout the week have been that Allen" will get the nod after missing the team's Week 15 win over the Steelers. Also, as Hobson points out, Allen "didn't appear on Friday's game status report and remained listed as the No. 1 quarterback in front of Ryan Finley." Either way, Allen's not a high-percentage lineup option for those in the fantasy playoffs, and it doesn't help that the Bengals…read more

Practices fully Thursday
Allen (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said earlier Thursday he expected Allen to be available for Sunday's game in Houston, and the quarterback's ability to take every rep at Thursday's practice seemingly backs up that notion. Taylor hasn't formally announced a Week 16 starting quarterback, but Allen is expected to take back the role from Ryan Finley, who led the Bengals to an upset win over the Steelers on Monday but threw for just 89 yards in the contest.

Should be available Sunday
Coach Zac Taylor indicated Thursday that Allen (knee) is on track to be available for the Bengals on Sunday against the Texans "if we need him," Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: While Taylor added that at this time he's not inclined to name a starting QB for Week 16, Baby anticipates that Allen -- who continued to practice Thursday -- will draw the assignment over Ryan Finley.

Logs limited practice
Allen (knee) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Allen's return to limited activity is a step in the right direction, but Ben Baby of ESPN.com noted earlier Wednesday that head coach Zac Taylor said the team plans to see how the quarterback's knee responds over the next couple of days before determining if he'll be available for Sunday's game against the Texans. Even if Allen gains clearance to play, he could shift into a backup role after Ryan Finley guided the Bengals to an upset win over the Steelers on Monday while Allen was sidelined.

Knee being monitored
Head coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday that Allen (knee) will be evaluated over the next few days before a decision on the Bengals' Week 16 starting quarterback is made, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: While Allen was sidelined for Monday's win over the Steelers, Ryan Finley drew the start and served as a game managing, passing for only 89 yards and a touchdown in the upset victory. The outing didn't necessarily boost Finley's job security, so Allen -- if healthy -- could have a shot at reclaiming the starting role Sunday against Houston. However, Allen will almost certainly need to resume practicing in some capacity Thursday and Friday to merit consideration for the starting nod.

Out Monday
Allen (knee) will not play Monday against the Steelers, Tyler Dragon of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Allen never managed to practice this week, so the end result isn't exactly shocking. As a result, Ryan Finley will enter as the starter for the first time this season. In three starts last year, the 25-year-old posted an unassuming 474 passing yards across 106 attempts (47.1 completion percentage) while throwing two touchdowns as well as two interceptions.

Misses another practice
Allen (knee) didn't participate in Friday's practice, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With his right knee injury sidelining him for the second practice in a row, Allen's chances of playing Monday against the Steelers aren't looking promising. The Bengals will see what Allen can do at practice Saturday before ruling on his status for the Week 15 matchup, but Ryan Finley will pick up his first start of the season in the event Allen is unable to go.

Won't practice Thursday
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that Allen (knee) won't practice Thursday, but the quarterback could still start Monday's game against the Steelers, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: Per Ben Baby of ESPN.com, Ryan Finley "is going to get as many reps as he can" this week, but Allen still appears to be the Bengals' preferred starting option, despite the fact that he's continuing to deal with a bone bruise in his right knee. The Bengals would gain confidence in Allen's chances of suiting up Monday if he can return to practice in any capacity Friday or Saturday.

Dubbed day-to-day
Coach Zac Taylor said Monday that Allen (knee) is "day-to-day," Tyler Dragon of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Taylor said that Allen suffered a right knee injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, per Dragon. It sounds like Allen has a shot to recover in time for the Bengals' upcoming Monday night matchup against Pittsburgh, but if not Ryan Finley would stand to draw the start.

Suffers leg injury
Allen was forced out of Sunday's game against the Cowboys with a right leg injury.
Analysis: Ryan Finley is expected to finish the game under center for the Bengals. Allen completed 27 of 36 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown before exiting the game. He also ran for 12 yards on four carries.

Practices fully Wednesday
Allen (chest) practiced fully Wednesday, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Allen was forced out of this past Sunday's loss to the Dolphins, but the his full practice participation Wednesday puts him on track to remain in the starting lineup this weekend against the 3-9 Cowboys, who've dropped six of their last seven games. Though the matchup is a decent one for Allen, he's only a lineup option in deeper fantasy formats at this stage after averaging only 144.5 passing yards through his first two starts while throwing for two touchdowns against two interceptions.

Leaves Sunday's game
Allen was forced out of Sunday's game against the Dolphins with a chest injury.
Analysis: Prior to his exit, Allen completed 11 of 19 pass attempts for 153 yards, with one TD and a pick. He was replaced at QB by Ryan Finley.

Struggles in loss to Giants
Allen completed 17 of 29 pass attempts for 136 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Allen averaged a measly 4.7 yards per attempt while completing just 59 percent of his passes. He threw an interception that set up a field goal in the third quarter before connecting with Tee Higgins for a one-yard touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth. With a 2:3 TD:INT and an average of just 152.6 yards per game over his last three outings, Allen seems likely to struggle against a tough Dolphins defense next Sunday if he's given another chance to start.

Poised for Week 12 start
The Bengals are planning to have Allen start at quarterback Sunday against the Giants, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: After serving as the Bengals' backup quarterback in each of the team's first 10 games and working in relief of Joe Burrow after the rookie tore his ACL and MCL in Sunday's loss to Washington, Ryan Finley was widely viewed as the favorite for the Week 12 nod. Instead, the Bengals are expected to cast their lot with Allen, who had been on the team's practice squad up until earlier this week. Signs with Bengals' active roster
The Bengals will sign Allen to the active roster Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Allen was on the Bengals' practice squad but will slot into the backup role behind Ryan Finley following news that Joe Burrow suffered a torn ACL and MCL during Sunday's loss to Washington. Over three games with the Broncos last season, Allen completed 39 of 84 passes (46 percent) for 515 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Lands on practice squad
Allen cleared waivers and signed with the Bengals' practice squad Sunday, Tyler Dragon of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: The Broncos started Allen under center in three games last year, and the results were discouraging, as he completed just 46.4 percent of his passes for 515 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He'll stick with the Bengals' practice squad as the franchise's No. 3 quarterback behind Joe Burrow and Ryan Finley.

Let go
Allen was cut by the Bengals on Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The Bengals also jettisoned Jacob Dolegala, leaving just Ryan Finley as the sole backup, though Pelissero hinted the team could make a move for one of the top backup QBs on the market thanks to its No. 1 waiver-wire claim. Considering Allen did register three starts last season it's almost guaranteed he'll at minimum make it on a team's practice squad, but it's unclear as to where he'll fall at the moment.

Joins Cincinnati
Allen signed a contract with the Bengals on Saturday.

Set for free agency
The Broncos won't tender Allen, making him an unrestricted free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The team hopes they can still come to an agreement on a deal this offseason, but other teams can enter the mix for Allen's services. Allen was set for spot-start duties with both Joe Flacco and Drew Lock injured in 2019, but with the latter returning to establish himself as the starter, Allen was relegated again to backup duties. Allen completed 39 of 84 passes for 515 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions last season. The 27-year-old likely will have to battle for a job wherever he…read more

Finishes 2019 on downswing
Allen completed 39 of 84 passes for 515 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions during the 2019 season. He ran for 39 yards on 10 carries.
Analysis: Allen went from surprise stud to questionable backup very, very quickly during the middle of the season. After posting an impressive 125.6 rating in a win over the Browns, that rating was cut in half to 61.9 in the following game against the Vikings and then was cut almost in half again to 32.4 in a loss to the Bills. Allen deserves at least some benefit of the doubt as the three games were his first regular-season playing experience, but he's been in the league since 2016. Assuming that Denver…read more

Moves to bench
Drew Lock will start Sunday against the Chargers with Allen moving to a backup role, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Allen's putrid outing in the Week 12 loss at Buffalo led the Broncos to turn to Lock, who came off injured reserve after missing 12 games with a thumb injury. Allen may serve as the backup the rest of the season.

Not assured Week 13 start
General manager John Elway said Allen and Drew Lock (thumb) both will get practice reps this week before the Broncos make a decision on their starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Allen's putrid outing in the Week 12 loss at Buffalo could inspire the Broncos to turn to Lock, who has been designated to return from injured reserve. The rookie wouldn't necessarily be an upgrade, but the Broncos probably want to see him get a few starts at some point before the conclusion of their dismal season. The decision for the Week 13 starter likely will be made Thursday or Friday.

Continues descent
Allen completed 18 of 25 passes for 82 yards and an interception during Sunday's 20-3 loss in Buffalo. He added eight yards on two carries.
Analysis: Those stats are not a typo, as Allen completed just three of his 14 attempts in the second half for a total of seven yards. Facing a stingy Buffalo defense and unable to cut through the wind with his middling arm, Allen did not complete a pass on Denver's final five drives of the game. Still, the game was within reach for much of the game, and a Broncos interception set Allen up in Buffalo territory late in the second quarter. He promptly had a miscommunication with Courtland Sutton and sailed…read more

Takes step back in Sunday's loss
Allen completed 17 of 39 passes for 240 yards with a touchdown and an interception during Sunday's 27-23 loss in Minnesota.
Analysis: The Broncos relied heavily on trickery early Sunday and it paid dividends, with Denver jumping out to an early 17-0 lead courtesy of a couple of big throws by Allen, including a 48-yarder to Courtland Sutton. When archaeologists dust off this game to see what went wrong, however, they'll find back-to-back drives to end the first half in which Allen airmailed a pass to Sutton to settle for a field goal and then was picked on his second try. Keeping starting job
Coach Vic Fangio confirmed Monday that Allen would remain the Broncos' starting quarterback for the team's Week 11 game against the Vikings, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: While making his NFL debut in place of the injured Joe Flacco (neck) in Week 9, Allen proved to be a capable game manager, completing 12 of 20 attempts for 193 yards and two touchdowns en route to guiding the Broncos to a 24-19 win over the Browns. Victorious in first NFL start
Allen completed 12 of 20 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 24-19 win over the Browns.
Analysis: Making his first NFL start, Allen showed a decent amount of poise and mostly let his skill players do all the hard work, as his two TDs came on impressive individual efforts by Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant. Allen didn't turn the ball over or make any glaring mistakes, however, which was all the Broncos needed to secure the win. He'll get a bye week to prepare before facing a much tougher test on the road against the Vikings in Week 11, although it's not yet clear when Drew Lock (thumb) might…read more
